Russian Revolution

Today is my last day of work for this season, which marks the official start of my summer. Woo-Hoo!

And for some strange reason (despite being only 2 days away from my 2010 Spanish Road Trip) I find myself stuck inside my latest Soviet period. Three beautiful Russian folk songs that REALLY make me smile, have been lingering inside my head all day long, only because they're so bloody beautiful :-)

Life In A Day: FEAR - LAUGH - POCKETS - LOVE

This is my entry for "Life in a Day".

Life In A Day is a historic global experiment to create a user-generated documentary feature film shot in a single day. On July 24, I had 24 hours to capture a glimpse of my life on camera. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into a feature film, produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.

Part 1 of 4: What do I FEAR the most?

Part 2 of 4: What makes me LAUGH?

Part 3 of 4: What's in my POCKETS?

Part 4 of 4: What do I LOVE the most?

A Letter That Truly Touched Me

With regards to my Timi Yuro music video, I got a response by Andylon Lensen that really blew my mind...

Here follows:

"Dear Yannis,

Who would ever thought this video would be casted with all talented young actors.

Timi would have LOVED it -  since she always had a weakness for children and older people anyway.

This is beyond my expectations.

Congratulations Yannis.

Your friend,

Andylon Lensen

I also had to forward this message from another die-hard fan of our Timi - Association:

Wow!! what an energetic performance these kids put in. Please give Yannis a big thank you from me. These kids are absolutely awesome. I think we may have a "budding" Timi somewhere out there. Oh if Timi were alive to see this. She would be absolutely thrilled to pieces at this video.

thank Yannis again, for yet another stellar performance...

Ann Marie"

Sometimes words simply aren't enough.

The Veil of Love

Apparently (or as "some" people claim) there are "many different ways to love".

Fair enough; if love is what you are looking for, that is.

But what about when it is Love you seek?

Maybe It lies behind a thin veil, patiently waiting, hiding from you in plain sight, until you are ready to finally receive It.

Let's drink to that.

Timi Yuro - As long as there is you P(H2) Remix

I will soon be directing the music video for this remix of that old Timi Yuro gem. It's a beautiful song so I'm really excited :-) Also, after an internationally coordinated effort, I managed to find out the lyrics to this song, which at the time I was writing this didn't exist anywhere else on the web. Enjoy:

All of my life I needed to belong
play the game pretending to be strong
but I’ll learn, I’ll  learn to live my life anew
as long as there is you
all the time
I’ll be fine
I'm no longer like a child
who’s always stood apart
hiding dreams of love within my heart
for at last those dreams can all come true
as long as there is you

I’ll survive
I'm alive
gone are all those wasted years
regretting all the things that I’m not
now I'm grateful for the things I've got
it means a lot to know know know this love of ours will last
all my fears will fade into the past
come what may, I know I’ll see it through
as long as there is you

Oh yeah baby.

Sé que el mar
Es mucho más azul
cuando estás aquí conmigo tu
y también caliente más el sol, el sol
estando así los dos

(translation:)
I know that the sea
is a lot more blue
when you're here with me
and  the sun, the sun is much warmer
by the two of us being together/being us together

Oh yeah baby.
Oh yeah baby.

All I need is to belong
now I know that I’m not so strong, baby

I will learn to live my life anew
as long as there is you
you
you
you
you

I’ll regret the things I’m not
yeah and I’ll be grateful, grateful for what I’ve got

Each Coming Night - Iron & Wine

Will you say when I'm gone away
My lover came to me and we'd lay
In rooms unfamiliar but until now
Oh oh oh oh
Until now
Oh oh oh oh
Until now

Will you say to them when I'm gone
I loved your son for his sturdy arms
We both learned to cradle then live without
Oh oh oh oh
Live without
Oh oh oh oh
Live without

Will you say when I'm gone away
Your father's body was judgement day
We both dove and rose to the riverside
Oh oh oh oh
Riverside
Oh oh oh oh
Riverside

Will you say to me when I'm gone
Your face has faded but lingers on
'Cause light strikes a deal with each coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night

Together In Electric Dreams - Phil Oakey (Human League)

This song reminds me SO MUCH of my youth! I was about 8 when the movie came out, and I have loved it ever since! :-)

A Question Of Priorities

Moral (albeit rather simplistic) question of the day:

Say you had $400bn to spare.

You would:

A. Invest in immediate plans to rid the earth from world hunger.
B. Invest in immediate plans to save the planet's environment/climate.
C. Invest in immediate plans to research and find cures for Cancer/AIDS etc.
D. Invest in immediate plans to educate the world's population.
E. Invest in immediate plans to bring about world peace.
F. Invest in a long term plan to send astronauts to Mars orbit in 2030s.

Hmmm... that's a tough one.

President Obama, what say you?
